Artist Profile
Amruthavarshini Muralikrishnan 16 year old shooting young star is making a rave in the USA, India and around the world by popularizing the Carnatic music on the Keyboard. Amruthavarshini a 10th grader from Cerritos High School, California USA is the first ever child prodigy to perform the Carnatic Music on the Electronic keyboard. She started playing the instrument under the tutelage of her Father and Guru Shri N. Muralikrishnan a Vina and Keyboard virtuoso at the tender age of two. Playing Carnatic Music on the Keyboard, a concept conceived and stylized by N. Muralikrishnan 23 years ago under the model "Changing Trends without Changing Traditional Values”, has now become a hot pick among the youngsters in the field of Carnatic music lately.
Amruthavarshini gave her first debut concert in San Diego, USA at the age of five in 1994. Since then she has been actively performing the Keyboard all over USA and other countries. She has played in several Music Albums, dance and music productions as soloist as well as accompanist. She has performed at several prestigious halls such as Carpenter's performing Arts center of Long Beach, Cerritos Performing Arts Center, Bovard Auditorium of USC, Getty Museum Center of Los Angeles, Schoenberg Hall of UCLA, Cleveland Aradhana, and so forth. She also participated in several World music Festivals around the country and was a special invitee at the A.R. Rahman’s LA 2000 show at Shrine Auditorium. She participated in several fund raising events for many nonprofit organizations such as UdhavumKarangal, ASHA-LA for under privileged children’s education in India, SPICMACAY, Tamil Rehabilitation Organization (TRO) for Tsunami Disaster Relief, and Corazon de Vida Foundation for orphans in Baja, to support good cause.
Amruthavarshini is also a great Carnatic Singer and gets her vocal training under the tutelage of her Mother Rose Muralikrishnan, a renowned Carnatic vocalist and teacher who studied under world renowned Late Dr. M.L. Vasanthakumari. Varshini is well versed in Western singing and bagged over 100 awards, prizes, and certificates to add to her merits. She plays the Sarasvathi veena, as well as the western Piano, and has composed music for several musical events. She enjoys Western dancing, playing tennis, and swimming as spare time hobbies. Her second interest is public speaking and speech debates in Model United Nations. She has attended many High School and college conferences in California, Arizona, and other neighboring states and won several awards and certificates for public speaking. She makes a difference in sick and elderly Citizens lives by volunteering at retirement homes through her music performances.
Amruthavarshini’s dream is to popularize the keyboard in the Carnatic music scene. As there were musical personalities such as Baluswami Diksh*tar for violin, U. Srinivas for Mandolin, Kadiri Gopinath for Saxophone, A.K.J. Natarajan for Clarinet; she wants Amruthavarshini to be called for Keyboard one day.
“Amruthavarshini’s quality and command on the keyboard, while bringing the purest form of raga bhavas with rhythmic control on different talas, lifted her up to the status of a seasoned performer" --- India Post News Service---
