Profile

Pt Prabhakar Karekar is a popular musician who is equally at ease with the classical and the Marathi stage music. He is, in that sense, later day version of his guru Pt Jithendra Abhisheki.

Prabhakar Karekar was born in Goa. Leaving his home when he was just 14, in search of a teacher, he initially trained under Pt Suresh Haldankar. Later he spent seven years under the tutelage of Pt Jithendra Abhisheki and from the age of 30 he has been guided by Pt C R Vyas.

Endowed with a powerful, though somewhat nasal voice, Prabhakar Karekar explores the raaga-s in ameticulous manner which has endeared him to all concert audiences. He has become one of the leading hindustani vocalists featuring in all the important music festivals all over the country and in the US as well. He is equally adept in other forms of expression like thumri, dadra, bhajan and Marathi natyasangeet.
