The interplay between he and the master tabla player/percussionst Zakir Hussain is particullary fascinating throughout this recording. This session must be among Christensen's most challenging, given the high degree of rhythmic complexity his colleagues are used to employing; and the little-known fact that Hussain is also an excellent drumset player. M.C.R.S. is an ABSOLUTE must have for the true Christensen fan. Yet the truth of the matter is likely that Hussain didn't find and any diffcult in recording in such an open improvisational setting, opposite the drums, to be anything he needed to adjust to.
This recording's personal emotional significance for him, is shown by Shankar dedicating it to "ONE OF THE GREATEST MUSICIANS... V.LAKSHMINARAYANA"
